A new website is launched today by the Metropolitan Police and crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers to help trace wanted offenders in London.

London’s Most Wanted seeks the public’s help in the capital, the UK and around the world, to locate people who have committed, or are suspected of committing serious crimes, but who have so far evaded capture.

The site is hosted by Crimestoppers and anybody who has information about any suspect featured on London’s Most Wanted can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or provide information via the online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.

MPS Deputy Commissioner Tim Godwin said: “The police work tirelessly to catch people who have committed, or are suspected of committing crimes, but we will always need the public’s help. This new website carries more information than ever before, allowing the public to search by crime type and location.

“This is a great tool to that everyone can use to help make London even safer by helping us get criminals off our streets.”

Lord Ashcroft KCMG, Founder and Chair of Crimestoppers said: “We undoubtedly have one of the most exciting and vibrant capital cities in the world, so as a community we must take a stand against crime to help improve London even more.

“I strongly urge the public to take a look at London’s Most Wanted site to see if you recognise any of the individuals and pass on information you may have about them to Crimestoppers. Information is vital in helping police capture criminals so they can face justice.”

Crimestoppers has a proven history of getting public support to assist in locating and arresting people wanted for serious crimes.

As a result of information passed to Crimestoppers:

Nationally, everyday 21 people are arrested and charged and one person every nine days is charged with murder.

In London there has been an eight per cent increase in the number of people arrested and charged compared to last year and a 17 per cent increase in actionable information received.

The new format for London’s Most Wanted website will be on a larger scale and allow members of the public to search for wanted people on a geographic basis.
